What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?
Elective 2D, 3D, 4D & HD prenatal ultrasounds at The Big Reveal are offered to enhance the pregnancy experience of expecting parents and to strengthen the connection between parents and their unborn baby. Our services complement, not replace the care of a doctor.
Our History
Although The Big Reveal was birthed (pun intended) in 2017, the company has a long history in the biomedical field.  Its parent company, 2D Imaging Inc. has been a premier provider in ultrasound equipment and services to hospitals and doctors for over 30 years. The relationship between 2D Imaging and The Big Reveal ensures that The Big Reveal keeps up to date with the latest and most advanced ultrasound technology, hence why we have breakthrough HD Live technology.

Do your ultrasounds replace the ones from the doctor?
No! As an elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound studio, we do not access the health, anatomy, development or abnormalities of the fetus. Our elective ultrasounds are solely for entertainment purposes and should never replace medical diagnostic ultrasounds under the valuable care of a prenatal healthcare provider.

What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D & HD Live Ultrasounds?

2D
Picture
2D Ultrasounds are ….wait for it…. 2 dimensional! They are your traditional black-and-white images. 2D ultrasounds allow parents to see their baby's internal organs, such as the baby's beating heart! All gender determinations are done in 2D.
3D
Picture
3D ultrasounds are three- dimensional still images of your baby. This method uses multiple 2D ultrasound images to render a 3D image. With this technology, you are able to see your baby's defined facial features.
Picture
4D ultrasounds are 3D images in motion. The movement of the baby is the 4th dimension. You can watch your baby’s behaviors: yawn, smile, suck on his or her fingers, play with its umbilical cord.
HD
Picture
HD Live, the most advanced ultrasound technology, brings unprecedented anatomical realism through advanced skin illuminating and shadowing techniques to help reveal a unique perspective for a higher level of diagnostic confidence. Like 4D, you can also watch your baby move.

Are elective 3D,4D & HD ultrasounds safe?
Extensive studies over 35 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harmful bio effects to mother or baby. Routine scans of all pregnancies are now normal throughout the United States. 3D, 4D & HD  ultrasound uses exactly the same frequency and intensity as conventional 2D ultrasound used in diagnostics. Contrary to popular belief, ultrasounds do not use radiation. Ultrasound is basically very high frequency sound waves. These sound waves are at a frequency well beyond the perception of the human ear and therefore no sound is actually audible.

When can you determine gender?
We can determine your baby's gender starting at 14 weeks. If baby is not cooperating or if genitalia is not developed enough, we will reschedule you to come back 1-2 weeks later. We'll gladly accept bets on the baby's gender, so are you team boy or team girl?
When is the best time to do a 3D/4D/HD ultrasound?
When you want to know if your baby will look like the better looking parent or not.

Other than that, at 26 to 32 weeks gestation. However excellent ultrasound pictures can be obtained starting at 22 weeks of pregnancy & up until your baby’s birth. Many mothers choose to have more than one 3D/4D/HD ultrasound so they can watch their baby develop & grow inside their womb.

How long will my appointment be?
                     Shorter than pregnancy, I promise!

>   5-10 minutes for paperwork.
>   10-30 minutes for ultrasound scan
>   10-20 minutes for choosing & printing pictures

What is the best way to prepare for my ultrasound appointment?
Get knocked up.

After the easy part, here are our recommendations:
Lots of water! More water = more amniotic fluid = better ultrasound pictures.
Pay attention to what time of day your baby is most active & schedule an appointment during that time of day.
Avoid a heavy meal. Babies can have food comas just like us! Heavy meals could put your little one to sleep.
Please drink something cold & sweet 10 minutes before your appointment! This will get your baby active & moving.

List of Recommended Drinks:
Slurpees/Icees/Slushies (work best!)
Fruity Sodas
Apple Juice
Smoothies
List of Not Recommended Drinks:
Energy Drinks
Diet Sodas
Coffee
Some factors that cannot be changed will prevent the sonographer from obtaining perfect pictures:
Anterior Placenta
The Position of the Baby
Excessive Fat Tissue or Skin
Murky Amniotic Fluid

While it is not impossible to obtain pictures, it can sometimes be difficult when these factors are presented.
